WHY DO WE WEAR PETZL HELMETS?
1. It protects our head from ... falling objects, bumping into scaffolding, things in the attic, ladders as we move them and load them, and the chinstrap keeps the helmet on our head if we fall and protects our head as it bumps things on the way down. Thank goodness that has not happened, but the chinstrap also keeps our helmet from falling off as we lean over edges. If you're in construction, and you wear a hard hat without a chin strap, then you know it falls off when you lean over ... and especially if it's really windy. Without a chinstrap, a your hard hat can quickly become someone else's hazard.
2. It has an attachment for the clear or tinted VIZIR for eye protection and I swap mine out in 15 seconds on a regular basis depending on where I'm working that day and how bright the conditions are at the moment. I am a huge believer in eye protection ... especially when using our circular saws, table saws, blowers and hammering. I'm currently on my last set of eyes and I'd like to keep them. Petzl's VIZIRs allow me to wear glasses beneath my eye protection ... and that's a big deal if you need glasses for fine work like we do.
3. It sets the mood for our high safety standards among our team, and with our clients. Our policy is to put them on as soon as we get out of the vehicle. Our clients expect and appreciate this level of professionalism. We've worked by referrals only since 2015 and maintain a year's backlog of work. So, our safety standards have also become our successful built-in marketing campaign. People know that if you take safety seriously, you take your work seriously as well. They are also mandatory on all the commercial sites that I visit.
4. The helmets come in 8 different colors and can be customized for individual companies with logos and names on custom decals. I've customized a thousand helmets for clients who desired head protection that elevated them above their competition.
5. Lastly, OSHA requires employers to provide a safe work environment. Lack of head and eye protection is one of OSHA's most frequent citations.
