Walking on slate or tile can destroy the roof. We never do it. We're not squirrels or raccoons.
Imagine having two thick panes of glass against each other on a fully supported floor.
Can you step on them without breaking them? Most likely.
Now, imagine you've got a tiny pebble between the two glass sheets. Would you step on them?
Of course not. You know they could crack or break.
This is what it's like if you walk on standard thickness slate (3/16" - 3/8" thick).
It ruins the roof and the building owner begins the never ending expensive journey of finding and fixing the leaks.
This is why conscientious roofers distribute their weight on ladders or even broom bristles in other countries.
This is why we help design walkable ridges or platforms into our slate roof projects.
The L3 Low Slope ladder bracket helps us stay off the slate and quickly utilize walkboards on lower pitch roofs to work around dormers and chimneys.
We normally use it with the ACRO slate roof bracket Part #19600, however, we designed it to easily accommodate 2 x 8's as well so that we can build platforms when necessary.
Used together with red SLATOR brackets, this system saves us significant labor costs on repair jobs and chimney work, and makes it easy to stay off the slate - especially important for lower slope slate and tile roofs.
