Description

Keep the roofers and service people from walking on your slate roof and ruining your roof. Install these steps for areas that may need regular accessibility. Properly installed, these steps will transfer loads directly to the roof sheathing and not onto the slate below. You may paint these custom made 3/16" aluminum steps to match your slate color. SCROLL DOWN TO WATCH OUR INSTALLATION VIDEO.

Minimum size orders are required.

A slate roof can last 120 years, unless you let someone walk on your roof.  If you do, expect your roof to be ruined.  Many roofers will say, "You just gotta know how.", then proceed to walk on your slate roof to do an inspection or fix a leak.  What they may not know, and definitely don't tell you, is that they are cracking and breaking slate, creating many new leaks for each one they fix.  Then, it gets worse every year as they come back to walk on it to fix the new leaks.  One leak spot turns into 10 more cracked slate for the next year, which turns into 100 when they come back and walk on it again, and again.

Imagine if you have 2 panes of glass in a horizontal position and fully supported.  Under compression, it can survive a heavy load right?  Now imagine you have a couple large grains of sand in between the glass.  How much load can it take now before creating a hairline crack or breaking completely.  This is how slate responds to foot traffic.  Systems (such as roof ladders) are used to distribute loads similar to snowshoes.

Our steps are custom made to match the roof pitch and slate size.  The lead time is generally about 5 weeks after we receive your dimensions and pitches.  Price varies based on size and quantity.  A minimum order size may apply.

The photo below (YOUTUBE VIDEO LINK) also shows our V-5 permanent anchor and custom stainless steel plumbing vent stack (painted black).

THIS IS WHAT FOOT TRAFFIC DOES TO SLATE ROOFS.
First come the "slate walkers".  Next come the "slate caulkers".
Hello headaches.  Hello leaks.  Goodbye money.
Don't let people walk on your slate roof.

We replaced the 2 vent stacks on the left with our new vent stack on the back.
